Of course, the holiday weekend presents
plenty of opportunity for racers to shine, and many did just that.
From touring series veterans to weekly short-track stalwarts, lots of
drivers will celebrate just a little bit harder this Memorial Day.
Without further ado, here's who made
The Podium this week:
1. Doug Coby, Milford, Conn.
Coby stormed through the field after
pitting for a flat tire early in the race, taking the lead with eight
laps remaining to win the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 on Friday night atStafford Motor Speedway. It was Coby's second NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour win of the season at Stafford.
Coby's victory was all the more
impressive in that it came in a completely different car than he won
the Spring Sizzler 200 in a few weeks earlier. The team brought its
New Hampshire Motor Speedway car to Stafford just hoping to work out
the bugs.
2. Nick Sweet, Barre, Vt.
Sweet won the first round of the
Vermont Late Model Championship series on Sunday afternoon, notching
his first career Memorial Day Classic 100 victory at Thunder Road
International Speedbowl. The 2010 track champion, Sweet won the Labor
Day Classic 200 last September at the track and has won a pair of
Merchants Bank 150s as well.
3. Mike O'Sullivan, Springfield, Mass.
The veteran Thompson International
Speedway racer won the Granite State Pro Stock Series' season opener
on Saturday, leading the final 31 laps en route to the checkered flag
in the David's House 106 at Monadnock Speedway. It was his first
series win.
Honorable Mention
Cassius Clark of Farmington, Maine, won
the PASS 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday night to
give Hight Motorsports its first-ever PASS North Series victory...
Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass., won the pole, led a race-high
117 laps and finished second in the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 in just
his second Whelen Modified Tour start of the season with Tinio Racing
at Stafford on Friday... T.J. Brackett of Buckfield, Maine, won the
40-lap Late Model feature at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday night
to best a field of 27 Late Models... Wayne Helliwell Jr. of Dover,
N.H., won his second consecutive 50-lap Late Model feature at Canaan
Fair Speedway on Saturday night... Brad Babb of Windham, Maine, won
the season-opening NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 40-lap Pro
Series feature at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday.
